FEMALE. (Specimens measured. Burundi: 1; Sierra-Leone: 1; South Africa: Holotype and 8 paratypes).

Dorsum. Dorsal shield 355(320–381) [369] long and 184(173–193) [185] wide; reticulate anteriorly to Z4, striate between and around Z4 and S5, and reticulate anteriorly to Z5. Setae j1 20(16–22) [20], j3 13(12– 14) [12], j4 10(10–11) [9], j5 10(9–12) [10], j6 11(10–13) [11], J2 14(13–16) [14], J5 10(9–12) [11], z2 12(10–13) [11], z3 12(11–13) [12], z4 13(12–15) [12], z5 10(9–11) [11], z6 11(10–14) [12], Z4 17(16–19) [15], Z5 40(37–43) [38], s4 14 (13–15) [14], s6 16 (13–17) [16], S2 17 (16–17) [17], S4 17 (16–19) [17], S5 16 (15–18) [16], r3 16(14–17) [15], R1 15(14–16) [14]. Setae short, setiform, smooth, sharp-tipped, except Z5, long, serrate-plumose and knobbed; seta R1 inserted on membrane.

Venter. Sternal shield smooth, with two pairs of sternal setae (ST3 inserted on membrane); posterior margin concave, very lightly sclerotized centrally; distances between ST1-ST3 64(61–67) [67], ST2-ST2 53(51– 56) [52]. Genital shield smooth; distance between ST5-ST5 54(51–56) [52]. Ventrianal shield smooth, pentagonal, constricted laterally at level of preanal pores, anterior margin straight or convex, 122(115–129) [123] long, 83(79–90) [87] wide at level of ZV2, 76(72–81) [79] wide at level of anus; setae JV2 and JV3 present; elliptical preanal pores posteromesad to JV2. Caudoventral setae smooth and sharp-tipped, except JV5, knobbed.

Chelicera. Movable digit 31(28–33) [31] long with 3 teeth; fixed digit 28(25–31) [28] long, with 5 teeth (proximal 2 teeth closely associated) and a pilus dentilis.

Spermatheca. Calyx saccular, narrow near atrium, 11(8–12) [9] long; atrium small, only distinguishable as lips.

Legs. Knobbed macrosetae: Sbt (macroseta of basitarsus) 28(25–35) [26] and Stt (macroseta of telotarsus) 24(20–27) [22]. Chaetotaxy: genu II: 2-2/0, 2/0-1; genu III: 1-2/1, 2/0-1.

MALE. (2 specimens measured).

Dorsum. Dorsal shield and setal patterns as in female, 284(274–293) long and 159 wide. Setae j1 16(15– 17), j3 12, j4 10, j5 10, j6 9, J2 11, J5 10, z2 11, z3 11, z4 11, z5 9, z6 10, Z4 14(13–14), Z5 30(28–31), s4 (broken), s6 14, S2 12, S4 14 (13–14), S5 14 (13–14), r3 14, R1 13.

Peritreme. Extending to level of j1.

Venter. Ventrianal shield subtriangular, with transverse striae anteriorly to anus, 101 long, 129 wide at the anterior corners; with 4 pairs of preanal setae (JV1-JV3 and ZV2), 3 pairs of lyrifissures (1 sub-lateral and almost in line with JV1, 1 lateral and slightly posterior to JV1 and 1 lateral and lightly posterior to ZV2) and a pair of elliptical preanal pores mesad of and slightly posterior to JV2. Caudoventral setae smooth and sharptipped.

Spermatodactyl. Curved distally with small pointed process on curve, ending in a knob, shaft 18(14-21) long.

Legs. Macrosetae knobbed: Sbt 25(23–27), Stt 21 (20–22). Chaetotaxy of genua II and III same as in female.

Specimens examined. One female, Burundi: 9 km S Rutana, on Markhamia obtusifolia , 13-XII-1989, J.S. Yaninek, deposited at ESALQ-USP. One female, Sierra-Leone: 36 km N Makeni, on Citrus sp., 16-XII- 1991, B. Kristensen, deposited at ESALQ-USP. South Africa: Holotype female from Hemizygia parvifolia, Blyde River Poort, Mpumalanga Province, 23-II-1978, M.K.P. Smith Meyer; 2 paratype females from Cymbopogon validus , 30 km from East London to Umtata, Eastern cape Province, 9-II-1974, F.W. Schultz; 2 paratype females from Solanum hermannii , 40 km from Peddie to East London, Eastern cape Province, 12-II- 1974, F.W. Schultz; one paratype female from Schkuhria pinnata , 40 km from Peddie to East London, Eastern cape Province, 12-II-1974, L.C. Smit; one paratype female from Hypoestes sp., Keiskamma River between East London and Peddie, Eastern Cape province, 12-II-1974, L.C. Smit; one paratype male and female from Helichrysum cymosum, Gonubie Beach , Eastern Cape Province, 9-II-1974, L.C. Smit; one paratype male and female from Lippia javanica , between Modimole (previously Nylstroom) and Bella Bella (previously Warm Baths), Limpopo Province, 5-V-1981, E.A. Ueckermann; all deposited at NCA-PPRI.

Remarks. The specimens from Burundi and Sierra-Leone have posterior margin of sternal shield indistinct and anterior margin of the ventrianal shield convex. In addition to the macrosetae, 1 paratype female has a knobbed seta on each of tibia III, basitarsus III, genu IV, tibia IV and basitarsus IV; the single female from each of Sierra-Leone and Burundi and 2 paratype females have a knobbed seta on each of genu IV, tibia IV and basitarsus IV; 1 paratype female has a knobbed seta on each of basitarsi III and IV; 5 paratype females have a short and knobbed seta on basitarsus IV.

World distribution. Burundi, Sierra-Leone, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
