Stanjehughesia kaohsiungensis S.Y. Hsieh, Goh & C.H. Kuo, sp. nov. ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 , 5a View FIGURE 5 )

Mycobank: MB 837329

Etymology: kaohsiungensis , referring to the collecting locality (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan).

Diagnosis: This species is distinct from other Stanjehughesia species ( Table 2; Figs. 4−6 View FIGURE 4 View FIGURE 5 View FIGURE 6 ) in having dark, caespitose, reduced conidiophores and dark, obclavate and ventricose, rostrate conidia

Colonies on natural substratum scattered, caespitose, brown. Mycelium partly immersed and partly superficial, composed of branched, septate, pale brown to brown, smooth-walled hyphae. Conidiophores short, 0–1-septate, mostly in groups of 4–10, cylindrical, dark brown to black, smooth-walled, 13–30(–34) × 4–5 μm. Conidiogenous cells monoblastic, terminal, determinate, cylindrical or lageniform. Conidia acrogenous, holoblastic, solitary, straight to flexuous or slightly sigmoid, obclavate to obclavate-rostrate, lower portion ventricose, thick-walled and somewhat verrucose at the ventricose region, brown to dark olivaceous brown, smooth and slightly paler toward the rostrate apex, (9–)19–27-euseptate, slightly constricted at the septa, (60–)100–140 μm long, 10.5–14.5 μm wide at the broadest part, tapering to 4.5–5.5 μm near the apex, 3.5–4 μm wide at the truncated base. Conidial secession schizolytic.

Sexual morph: Undetermined.

Phylogenetic position: Ascomycota; Pezizomycotina; Sordariomycetes; Sordariomycetidae; Chaetosphaeriales ; Chaetosphaeriaceae ; Stanjehughesia .

Known distribution: Taiwan.

Material examined: TAIWAN. Kaohsiung City: Taoyuan District, 20 Provincial Highway (23.20359 −120.80215, elevation 683 m), on decaying wood submerged in a freshwater stream, 17 November 2019, Chang-Hsin Kuo leg., NCYU-108K3-1 (Herb. no. TNM: F0034162 View Materials , holotype); ex-type living culture: BCRC FU31337 (from Isolate NCYU- 108K3-1-1) GoogleMaps ; GenBank: ITS = MT 939301 View Materials (Isolate NCYU-108K3-1-1) , MT 939302 View Materials (Isolate NCYU108 K3-1-2) ; LSU = MT 939303 (Isolate NCYU-108K3-1-1) , MT 939304 View Materials (Isolate NCYU108 K3-1-2) .

Note: Isolates NCYU-108K3-1-1 and NCYU-108K3-1-2 were derived from two individual single-conidia ( Goh 1999). Only the formal is living and deposited at BCRC. The culture of Isolate NCYU-108K3-1-2 has neither been deposited at BCRC nor NCYU, and is no longer available after DNA extraction.
