Diagnosis. Stathmopoda flavescens is similar to S. callicarpicola Terada, 2012 and S. gemmiconsuta Terada, 2012 in appearance and male genitalia. It can be distinguished from S. callicarpicola in the female genitalia by the transitional region of the ductus bursae and the corpus bursae with about 60 spicules; in S. callicarpicola , the transitional region of the ductus bursae and the corpus bursae lacks spicules. It can be distinguished from S. gemmiconsuta in the male genitalia by the uncus obtuse at apex, and in the female genitalia by the signum with length half the median width of the corpus bursae, the appendix bursae originating from the posterior part of the corpus bursae and the transitional region of the corpus bursae and the appendix bursae without spicules; in S. gemmiconsuta , the uncus is straight at apex, and the signum is as wide as the corpus bursae, the ductus seminalis arises from one side of the corpus bursae and the transitional region of the corpus bursae and the appendix bursae has a few scattered spicules.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 20‒26 ). Wingspan 11.0‒13.0 mm. Head with frons and vertex cream white; occiput shin- ing black. Labial palpus yellowish white on inner surface, yellowish brown on outer surface, second segment blackish brown in basal half on outer surface. Antenna yellowish brown, cream white on anterior margin of scape; flagellum with dark brown scales along anterior margin. Collar pale yellow, blackish brown in some individuals (collected from Kuankuoshui of Guizhou). Thorax and tegula yellow; thorax with a blackish brown spot posterolaterally, with a blackish brown spot on posterior margin; tegula with scattered blackish brown scales in some individuals collected from Sichuan and Guizhou. Forewing yellow, with a dark brown streak along costal margin, with three dark brown fasciae: first fascia from base to basal 1/8; second fascia sub-trapezoidal, from between basal 1/4 and 1/3 of costal margin to between basal 1/4 and 3/7 of dorsal margin; third fascia sub-rhombic, obliquely inward, from between basal 5/8 and basal 7/10 of costal margin to between beyond middle and basal 2/3 of dorsal margin, second and third fasciae connected with costal streak anteriorly, linked by a dark brown streak along dorsal margin; apex with a dark brown streak; fringe brown, yellow around apex. Hindwing and fringe greyish brown. Legs yellow dorsally, yellowish white ventrally; foreleg with tibia blackish brown on outer surface, first and second tarsomeres of tarsus blackish brown; midleg with tibia bearing yellowish brown bristles at middle and apex, tarsus blackish brown at apex; hindleg with tibia with dense long yellowish brown bristles at basal 1/3, 2/3 and apex respectively, tarsus blackish brown at apices of basal three tarsomeres, with long yellowish brown bristles at apices of basal two tarsomeres. Abdomen dark brown on dorsal surface, yellowish brown on ventral surface.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 50 View FIGURES 46‒51 ). Uncus elongate sub-trapezoidal, narrowed from base to apex, with long setae laterally, apex obtuse, curved downward in lateral view. Gnathos tongue-shaped, broad at base, narrowed to rounded apex. Tegumen with height approximately twice length of uncus. Valva wide at base, narrowed to cucullus; cucullus elongate elliptical, oblique upward, length approximately twice of maximum width, obliquely straight on dorsal margin, obtuse on ventral margin, rounded at apex; inner process thin, clubbed, curved inward at middle at a right angle; costa produced triangularly; sacculus narrow, 3/5 length of valva, concave at basal 1/4 on ventral margin, rounded at apex. Vinculum narrowly banded; saccus short, rounded on anterior margin. Juxta rounded; anellar lobes elongate conical, twice length of juxta. Aedeagus same length as valva, with a sclerotized plate near base, basal 3/4 almost uniform in width, distal 1/4 gradually narrowed; distal process slender, half length of aedeagus, pointed at apex; cornutus absent.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 67‒71 ). Papillae anales short, broad conical, with short setae. Intersegmental membrane between papillae anales and eighth abdominal segment 2.5 times length of papillae anales. Apophyses posteriores 1.5 times length of apophyses anteriores. Eighth segment straight on posterior margin, with long setae; eighth tergite concave in V-shape anteromedially; eighth sternite triangularly produced anteriorly. Antrum sub-rectangular, with dense microspines on inner wall. Ductus bursae almost uniform, 1.2 times length of corpus bursae. Corpus bursae rounded, with 60 small spicules at transition of corpus bursae and ductus bursae; signum crescent, located at middle, length half of median width of corpus bursae, serrate on posterior margin, with sparse microspines in surrounding area. Appendix bursae originating from posterior part of corpus bursae; ductus seminalis narrow, tubular, with dense granules distally.
Host plant. Alnus sp. (Betulaceae) ( Sinev 1999).
Distribution. China (Anhui, Chongqing, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Liaoning, Shanxi, Sichuan, Tianjin, Tibet, Yunnan, Zhejiang); Japan ( Terada 2016: 37), Russia.
