Hemerodromia maturaca View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 62–69 View FIGURES 62 – 69 )

Diagnosis. F1 with strong basiventral process; tergite 1 yellow; epandrium subrectangular ( Fig. 65 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ); subepandrial sclerite with two finger-like posterolateral processes ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ); phallus with apical membranous area with scattered spicules ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ).

Description. Male ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Head. Dark brown to black, antenna and mouthparts yellow with all setae whitish; moderately flattened ocellar triangle with 1 pair of proclinate setae; anterior ocellus larger. Eyes iridescent black, very narrowly separated on face which bears fine reclinate setulae. Frons with 1–2 setulae; small vertical setae contiguous with uniseriate postocular setae; occiput bearing scattered fine hairs. Clypeus with rather dense short downwardly directed pile. Proboscis slightly curved with setae yellow. Antenna with scape and pedicel bearing distinct short dorsal setulae; postpedicel about 1.5X as long as wide, stylus ~ 0.8X as long as postpedicel. Thorax ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Elongate, slightly arched ventrally; thoracic dorsum yellow except brownish on prothoracic collar, narrowly behind postpronotal lobe, longitudinal band between acrostichal setae, scutellum and mediotergite; antepronotum with anterior margin almost straight and scutum with yellow setae, very small and fine except 1 notopleural. Legs ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Whitish yellow. C1 ~ 1.3X longer than distance between C1 and C2, 6X as long as wide with some pale dorsoapical setae. F1 ~ 1.2X as long as C1, 4.0–4.5X as long as wide; femoral formula 8/ 23–24/1+25/7, with a basiventral process; denticles confined to distal 0.7, becoming closer together distally, black, 2 rows linear, without distal discontinuity. T1 ~ 0.7X as long as F1, evenly curved, ventral face shallowly concave; with 2 rows 17–19 sharply pointed spinose setae ventrally; dorsal ciliation of decumbent short pale setulae, denser distally; with small apicoventral spur on T1 bearing strong apical spine. Mid and hind legs slender with fine setae but T3 with ‘comb’ of short setae posteroapically. Wing ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Membrane slightly yellow, veins brownish; R2+3 long and straight, not strongly curved towards C apically, joining C ~ 0.7 distance between end of R1 and R4; R4+5 fork angle acute (~ 60°), distal to position of M1+2 fork by the same length of R4; R5 and M1 convergent distally; vein R5 ~ 2.5X as long as R4; cell bm+dm short, ending at level of R1, ~ 2.0X as long as cell br. Halter whitish yellow. Abdomen ( Figs 62, 64 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Tergites 2–6 brownish; tergite 1, 7–8 and sternites yellowish. Tergites with distinct setae on posterior margin; tergite 8 slightly shorter than sternite 8. Terminalia. Brown. Cercus long, narrow basally, somewhat broader and rounded at apex ( Fig. 65 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ), cerci closely approximated anterodorsally ( Figs 66, 67 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ), distinctly setose on outer face. Epandrium wide, subrectangular, scattered setae on outer face ( Fig. 65 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Surstylus simple with strong setae at apex ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Hypandrium rather subtriangular in ventral view ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ), with distinct setae; gonocoxal apodeme projecting as narrow process just beyond anterior margin of hypandrium. Subepandrial sclerite with anterior margin pointed, with two short finger-like posterolateral processes bearing 1 long spine and several setulae ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Phallus sclerotized basally, extending beyond hypandrium apex, broad apical membranous area with scattered spicules ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ). Ejaculatory apodeme absent. Body length: 4.2 mm; wing length: 3.3 mm. Female: Unknown.

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂ “ BRASIL, AM[azonas], S.[ão] Gabriel da Cachoeira, Ig.[arapé] Maturacá , Malaise. 4.iv.1995, Fernanda”( INPA).

Holotype condition. Right postpedicel and notopleural setae lost. Wing mounted on a microslide. Terminalia in microtube with glycerin.

Etymology. The specific epithet is a noun in apposition and refers to " Maturaca " stream, the locality where the specimen was collected.

Remarks. Hemerodromia maturaca sp. nov. is similar to H. collini sp. nov. by the R4+5 fork distal to the position of the M1+2 fork shorter than the length of R4; subepandrial sclerite with 2 finger-like posterior process; and epandrium subrectagular. Hemerodromia maturaca sp. nov. differs from the latter by the cercus is almost straight apically and phallus have no posterolateral pointed projections. In H. collini sp. nov. the shape of the cercus being incurved apically, and phallus with two posterolateral pointed projections.
