Taxonomy: This species was previously considered a synonym of A. malayensis ( Schedl, 1954) by Beaver et al. (2008). The lectotype of Xyleborus yakushimanus was examined by SMS and AIC in NMNH and is conspecific with specimens collected from northern Vietnam. These Vietnamese specimens were then compared to the lectotype and three paralectotypes of X. malayensis (NHMW), and were found to represent a distinct but closely related species.
