Paedocypris sp.: Authors’ data (Pondok Tanjung).
Remarks. Following Kottelat et al. (2006), we confirm that the diminutive species encountered in 2000 by the third author and again in 2006 by the second author in Pondok Tanjung belongs to the genus Paedocypris ( Fig. 4). Although Mayden & Chen (2010) and Fricke et al. (2018) have classified the genus Paedocypris as belonging to the Paedocyprididae family, we have placed it under the Cyprinidae family in our checklist following Britz et al. (2014) i.e. we assume there is an error in Fricke et al. (2018). Currently, literature review indicates that the enigmatic genus Paedocypris hosts three species with a maximum standard length of 10–12 mm, namely P. progenetica (from Jambi, Sumatra), P. micromegethes (from central Sarawak) and P. carbunculus (from Central Kalimantan) ( Kottelat et al., 2006; Britz & Kottelat, 2008). Due to the presence of cartilaginous skeletal characters which characterizes the larval-like species, we could not further investigate the status of the specimens found in Perak as we lack the necessary high-resolution visual and scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipment at this point of time.
