Harpalus suensoni Kataev, 1997: 131 View in CoL . Type locality: Soochow (31°21'N 120°40'E), Jiangsu, China.

Type material. Holotype: ♂, labeled " China, Jiangsu, Soochow, 31°21'N 120°40'E, 25.IX.1921, coll. E. Suenson" ( ZMUC). Paratypes: 13 ♂, 10 ♀ from China (Jiangsu and Zhejiang) ( ZMUC); and 1 ♂ from South Korea ( ZIN).

Additional material examined. 36 specimens, including the following ones not published before. China. 3 ♂, 1 ♀, " crenulatus Chaudoir [this name has never been published], Chine boreale, S. Stevens" ( MNHN). ZHEJIANG: 1 ♀, "Chekiang [= Zhejiang], Hangcheou, A. Pichon 1925" ( MNHN). YUNNAN: 1 ♂, Dengchuan, 25.VIII.1937, C.W. Wang leg. ( IOZ).

Diagnosis. This species is very similar in external characters, including protibial apical spur dentate at margins (Fig. 6), and male genitalia to H. tridens , but is distinguished from the latter by having elytral striae finely punctate, elytral disc without microsculpture, only two lateral intervals densely punctate apically, intervals 6 and 7 with few punctures before apex, subapical sinuation of elytra markedly deeper (Fig. 7), and internal sac of aedeagus ( Figs 42–43 View FIGURES 40 – 43 ) with a large medial spiny patch. Body length 9.7–13.0 mm.

Distribution. China: Shaanxi, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hubei ( Kataev et al. 2003; Wrase 2005) and Yunnan. It is the first record from Yunnan.

The species is also known from South Korea ( Kataev 1997; Paik & Moon 2005).
