Type locality. Sulu Archipelago water, Indonesia ( Hansen 1910) .
Record from Thailand. South-eastern Andaman Sea, next to Phuket Island ( Fukuoka & Murano 2002).
Habitat and depth range. Marine, depth: 19–83 m ( Fukuoka & Murano 2002) .
Distribution. This species has a wide distribution from Indonesia ( Hansen 1910; Zimmer 1918), Sri Lanka ( Colosi 1919; 1920), the Andaman Sea (W.M. Tattersall 1922; Pillai 1973; Fukuoka & Murano 2002; Panampunnayil 2002), Australia (W.M. Tattersall 1936; Lowry & Stoddart 2003), Micronesia, Polynesia (W.M. Tattersall 1943), Philippines (W.M. Tattersall 1951), Indian Ocean ( Pillai 1964; 1973; Taniguchi 1974; Biju & Panampunnayil 2011; Biju et al. 2014; Wittmann 2020), South China Sea ( Ii 1964; Wang & Liu 1994), Strait of Malacca (O.S. Tattersall 1965), Northwest Pacific ( Hanamura & De Grave 2004).
Remarks. This species is very similar to H. pulchra , however, both of these species can be distinguished by the following characteristics: uropodal endopod overreaches the exopod, and the telson without narrow medial portion, but steadily narrows towards the apex in H. parva ; the uropodal endopod in H. pulchra is as long as or slightly shorter than the exopod and the concave border forms a waist-like or narrow medial portion at the telson ( Biju & Panampunnayil 2011).
