Conostigmus trapezoidus Kieffer, 1908 View in CoL
Species Comments and History. Kieffer (1908) described this species from a single male specimen collected in Jeannette, PA. The species is named for the trapezoidal appearance of the vertex of the head: “tète rétrécie graduellement en arriére des yeux, le vertex par suite trapezoidal” ( Kieffer, 1908, pg. 35). However, this is a feature of many megaspilid species. The original description offers other characters related to antennae ratios, coloration and microsculpture that could apply to several different species as well. The location of the original type specimen is unknown, so it is not possible to verify this species at the time. We consider Conostigmus trapezoidus as a species inquirenda.
