Genus Rhamphothrips Karny View in CoL

Rhamphothrips Karny , 1913: 123. Type species: Rhynchothrips tenuirostris Karny 1912: 123 .

Members of the genus Rhamphothrips have a particularly elongate mouth cone and small head, and the males of some species exhibit remarkable differences in structure between large and small individuals ( Tyagi et al., 2008). Rhamphothrips is closely allied to Exothrips Priesner , and is separable by several features: the small head, median anteriorly directed fernal process, hypomere typically not dilated subapically, and longitudinally striate metascutum. This genus comprises 16 species in the world (ThripsWiki, 2013), and is represented in China by two species: R. parviceps (Hood) that was recorded from Hainan and Yunnan (Han, 1997); and R. quintus from Tiwan ( Wang, 1993).
