Material examined. Syntype ɗ, with the following labels: 1. Museum circular redmargined label with “ TYPE ” pr; 2. “N. India ” hwr, on reverse “48. 134” hwr [ BMNH register information for 1848 134 reads: “170 Rhynchota N. India (Almorah) Bought of Mr Warwick Part of Boyes collection - a selection £45”]; 3. “108. Lygaeus maculatus ,” pr (cut out from the catalogue of Walker, 1872).

Syntype Ψ, with the following labels: 1. “E. Ind.” hwr, on reverse “43. 43.” hwr; 2. “ Lygaeus ” pr, “ maculatus ” hwr, “Walker’s catal.” pr.

Remarks. Originally described from “a. N. India. From Capt. Boys’s Collection.” and “b. India. From Archdeacon Clerk’s Collection.”. This species has a similar structure of the pronotum and scutellum to Tropidothorax species (see Lygaeus simla Distant ) and is very similar to T. autolycus (Distant) , but the latter species is slightly larger and has some differences in coloration.
