(Symplocaceae) in Philipp. J. Sci. 23(3): 260. 1923. TYPE:— CHINA. Hainan: Wong Chuk, 1 June 1922, F. A. McClure 3233 (i.e. Canton Christian College Herbarium 9781) (syntype: PNH, destroyed, A 00077269 image!, A 00077271 image!).

McClure 9781 was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Symplocos shaefferae Merr. ( Merrill, 1923) . However, the collecting number on the labels of the syntype specimens exist in A is 3233, while the herbarium number is Canton Christian College Herbarium 9781. Thus, the collecting number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
