Revised description. Shell moderately large, broad fusiform with high conical spire; apical angle ~35°. Protoconch not preserved. Teleoconch of 12 whorls. Early teleoconch whorls flat-sided with tripartite sculpture; two adsutural spiral rows of small beads, with weakly beaded narrow central cord. Later whorls with subsutural collar of moderate width, bearing initially vague tubercles. Small spines develop on last two whorls; deeply concave mid-portion, central cord disappears on fifth whorl; suprasutural cord with prominent opisthocline tubercles. Entire surface covered by numerous secondary spiral cords also overriding tubercles. Suture narrowly incised, running below beads. Last whorl ~60% of total height. Subsutural collar of moderate width, bearing small spines just below suture. Subsutural ramp wide, concave. Shoulder delimited by row of small tubercles. Mid-whorl weakly convex, weakly angled at peribasal cord. Base strongly constricted. Siphonal fasciole weakly developed. Sculpture below ramp of slightly strengthened tubercular shoulder cord, beaded mid-whorl, peribasal and perifasciolar cords with further irregular cords of primary to tertiary strength intercalated over entire whorl. Aperture moderately wide, pyriform.Outer lip not thickened, with about 14 lirae deep within of roughly alternating length.Anal sinus moderately wide and deep, asymmetrically V-shaped, with apex mid-ramp. Siphonal canal moderately long, moderately narrow, straight to slightly deflected to left, unnotched. Columella excavated in upper third, straight below, slightly twisted at fasciole, smooth. Columellar and parietal callus strongly thickened, sharply delimited.

Discussion. ‘ Clavatula sophiae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) is reminiscent of ‘ C. ’ olgae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) , but is distinguished by its broader shape, the presence of tubercles on the subsutural collar, and the smaller beads on early teleoconch whorls. Bałuk (2003) treated Clavatula interrupta sensu Hörnes (1854) as synonym of ‘ C. ’ sophiae , but Baluk’s specimens are clearly distinguished by the weak central spiral cord of beads on the early teleoconch whorls of ‘ C. ’ sophiae , by its prominent spiral cords and by the tubercles on its subsutural collar. Moreover, ‘ C. ’ interrupta ( Brocchi, 1814) lacks lirae within the outer lip. The specimens from Korytnica ( Poland), which have been erroneously identified as ‘ C. ’ sophiae by Bałuk (2003), differ in their smaller and more crowded beads on early teleoconch whorls, which are arranged in three uniform spiral rows, the much higher spire, the lower last whorl and the presence of tubercles at the abapical suture.

Paleoenvironment. Inner neritic sandy bottoms partly with seagrass ( Švagrovský 1981a; Dulai 1996; Zuschin et al. 2007).

Badenian (middle Miocene): Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Poland) ( Bałuk 2003); Vienna Basin: Enzesfeld ( Austria) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1891), Borský Mikuláš ( Slovakia) ( Švagrovský 1982); Pannonian Basin: Szob ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1953); Krka Basin: Dolenja Brezovica ( Slovenia) ( Mikuž 2009).
