Gandaritis whitelyi (Butler) View in CoL
( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 22–57 )
Gandaritis whitelyi View in CoL : Beljaev & Mironov 2019: 264 (Sakhalin).
Material examined. 1 ♀, S Kholmsk, 25.VII.2021 ; 1 ♂, Sokhonda mount., 21.VII.2019.
Distribution. Russia (S RFE: SW Sakhalin, S Kurils—Kunashir, S Primorskii Krai), Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu), North Korea, South Korea, China (NE, N, Central).
Remarks. The finding of G. whitelyi in Sakhalin significantly expands its distribution range to the northeast. The larvae feed on Actinidia arguta ( Actinidiaceae ), several plants of which grew near the collection site. The collected specimens have narrowed black elements in the wing pattern, and in appearance they well correspond to the nominative subspecies G. whitelyi whitelyi , distributed in Hokkaido and the Kuril Islands.
