Remark. In contrast to M. striata var. striata , the scales of M. striata var. balonovii have the shield marked with 20–22 regularly-spaced transverse ribs. This difference is enough to raise it to the species rank. Voloshko (2009) erroneously attributed the scale depicted in Tabl. II: fig. 5 by Balonov & Kuzmina (1986) to M. striata var. getseniae .
