Type species. Gigantorhynchus dubius Sapelnikov & Malygina, 1977 ≡ Alairhynchus dubius (Sapelnikov & Malygina) Doweld , comb. nov
Diagnosis. See Sapelnikov & Malygina (1977: 62) and Savage (2002: 1149).
Stratigraphic range. Middle Devonian (Givetian = Musbelian suite).
Type locality. Archabulak river, Koksu (Eastern) River basin, Archal-tur ridge, Eastern Alai (Southern Tien Shan, Kyrgyzstan).
Etymology. From the Alaĺ Mountaĺns of Pamĺr-Alaĺ Mountaĺn system ĺn Central Asĺa ( Kyrgyzstan and Tajĺkĺstan).
Holotype: CGM 1/11292 (figured in Sapelnikov & Malygina, pl. 1, figs 1–2; pl. 2, figs 1–2; pl. 3, figs 1–4; pl. 4, figs 1–3).
