Ancyronyx pseudopatrolus Freitag & Jäch View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs. 5 View FIGURES 3 – 6 , 12 View FIGURE 12 a–d)

Type locality. Panaguman River, St. Paul National Park, Marofinas District, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines.

Type material. Holotype ď ( NMW): “ PHIL.: Palawan, P. Princesa Panaguman R. 10°15'09''N 118°58'03'' E 17.5.2001, leg. Freitag (PR1)D”, dissected (terminal parts of abdomen, aedeagus, one labial palpus, and parts of legs glued separately), two legs missing, other legs broken or incomplete.

Differential diagnosis. In general habitus and colour ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 3 – 6 ) this species conspicuously resembles A. patrolus . It can be distinguished from the latter by the colour pattern of the legs and the stout aedeagus. In size and proportions, this specimen (CL: 1.42 mm, HW: 0.33 mm, ID: 0.21 mm, PL: 0.41 mm, MW: 0.45 mm, EL: 0.96 mm) agrees quite well with small specimens of A. patrolus , except for a slightly smaller EW of 0.59 mm.

Ventral side dark brown, darker than in A. patrolus (except for dark coloured individuals of the latter); legs brown to dark brown, distal half of tibia (except tip) yellowish; antennae pale brown, distally darkened.

Ventral (inner) side of femora with conspicuous setae. Claw with two teeth, distal one much larger than inconspicuous basal one.

Prosternum punctate to granulose; punctures of metaventrite and ventrites 1–5 more deeply impressed than in A. patrolus .

Sternite IX ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 c) apically slightly rounded, not emarginate, lateroapically without setae, with micropores; paraprocts reaching apical margin.

Aedeagus ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 a, b) ca. 350 µm long. Median lobe broader and stouter than in A. patrolus ; subapically distinctly widened (ca. 110 µm broad), with numerous distinct microtube-like structures ending sublateroapically; ventral sac plicate; fibula weekly sclerotized, inconspicuous; corona well developed. Phallobase subsymmetrical, basally somewhat tapered and with conspicuous, strongly sclerotized margin; basolateral (penile) apophyses short. Parameres subtriangular (lateral view), reaching about basal 0.65 of aedeagus; basal margin slightly emarginate (lateral view), not contiguous ventrally.

Male ventrite 5 ( Figs. 12 View FIGURE 12 d) subtrapezoidal, apically microreticulate.

Female unknown.

Distribution (Fig. 17). Only known from the type locality.

Etymology. The species is named in reference to its close relationships with Ancyronyx patrolus .
