Diagnosis. A medium-sized species, sharing most character states with O. semenowi , but differing from it by the differently shaped aedoeagus, and by some external characters, as given in the description.
Description. Size larger, body shape more robust. Pronotum in front of posterior margin often to greater extent paler, dark rufobrunneous, elytra mostly somewhat paler, dark brownish piceous; antennae darker, with first three segments usually at least partially darkened, following segments brunneopiceous, but becoming paler toward antennal end. Head larger, eyes relatively smaller, tempora more distinctly longer than eyes from above (ratio 2.53); punctation of head similar, but less dense, microsculpture on interspaces between punctures similar, but finer, head therefore appearing shinier. Gular sutures approximate, gula very narrow; punctation of postgenae sparser. Antenna more robust and longer, segment 3 longer than segment 2 (ratio 1.27), segments 4–6 longer than wide, gradually becoming shorter, outer segments about as long as wide. Punctation of pronotum less dense, microsculpture on interspaces between punctures finer, pronotum therefore appearing shinier. Punctation of elytra slightly less dense. Punctation of adominal tergites similar, but sparser and slightly finer.
Male. Sternite 8 with moderately wide and deep, obtusely triangular medioapical emargination. Genital segment with sternite 9 with long, tapered basal portion, vaguely emarginate apically (Fig.165). Tergite 10 wide, evenly narrowed toward arcuate apex, setose as in Fig. 166. Aedoeagus rather large, shaped as in Figs. 167–169; median lobe widely attenuate in middle portion, apical portion asymmetrical with subacute apex; paramere large, elongate, slightly asymmetrical, covering most of median lobe, with subacute apex not quite reaching apex of median lobe, with long carina on face away from median lobe; sensory peg setae on underside of paramere numerous, forming solid apical field extended posteriad along both lateral margins, considerably more so along left margin (Figs. 168, 169); apical setae very fine, situated at apex and at left margin (Fig. 169).
Female. Tergite 10 of genital segment moderately narrowed toward subacute apex, with long setae at and near apex, otherwise covered sparingly with short, fine setae; apical portion strongly sclerotized (Fig. 170).
Length 14.0–18.0 mm.
Bionomics. Ocypus glabrio seems to occur mainly in forest habitats (mostly mixed broad leaved/coniferous forests) at elevations from 2750 m to 4000 m.
Geographical distribution. Ocypus glabrio is at present known from north-central Sichuan, particularly from the mountain ranges around Barkam.
Recognition and comments. Ocypus glabrio may be easily distinguished from O. semenowi , in addition to the entirely differently shaped aedoeagus (see Figs. 161, 167), by the characters given in the diagnosis. It is also similar to O. teuthras , but the latter species differs, in addition to the differently shaped aedoeagus (Fig. 173), by the deep black pubescence of the dorsal side of the body (most noticeable on the abdomen), and by the finer and denser punctation of the dorsal side of the head, pronotum, elytra and of the abdominal tergites.
Etymology. The specific epithet is the name of Glabrio, - onis, m, a surname in the gens Acilia , in apposition.
