Caloneis elongata (Grunow in Schmidt) Boyer (1927: 312) ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 21–37 )

References: Simonsen 1974, p. 42, pl. 26, fig.5; Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 164, pl. 152, fig. 10.

Features: Length: 58–90 μm, width: 8–12 μm, striae 18–20 in 10 μm.

Description: Valves linear with parallel margins and rounded apices. Raphe-sternum large with straight raphe fissures. Axial area narrow, central area rounded with crescent-like markings on both sides. Transapical striae parallel throughout.

Remarks: Specimens observed bear slightly higher striae density (15–18 in 10 μm in Witkowski et al. 2000).

Ecology and Distribution: Widely distributed marine species. Previously reported from the Gulf ( Hendey 1970, Al-Yamani & Saburova 2011). Rare in Basra corals.
