Mastogloia quinquecostata Grunow (1860: 578) ( Fig. 21 )

Features: Length 90–160 μm, width 30–50 μm, striae 14–16 in 10 μm.

Description: Valves elliptical to rhombic with protracted apices. Raphe branches almost straight, ending centrally in slightly expanded pores and bordered by slightly raised thickenings. External valve face shows a lanceolate median depression on both sides of the raphe-sternum, slightly raised up at the center. Transapical striae monoseriate, parallel at the center and radiate at the poles, crossed by more or less wavy longitudinal ribs.

Remarks: Specimens observed were larger in size than previously reported, with striae slightly less dense.

Ecology and Distribution: A widely distributed marine species particularly in warm waters. Previously reported from the Gulf ( Hendey 1970, Al-Yamani & Saburova 2011). Common in Basra corals,
