Until recently, the genus Didymochlaena was treated as monospecific, as also by us ( Kessler & Smith 2018d). In a series of publications, Shang, Zhang, and collaborators have subdivided the genus into 22 species, six of which occur in tropical America ( Shang & Zhang 2023, Shang et al. 2020, 2021, 2023). As a result of this, the name D. truncatula (Sw.) J.Sm., previously used by us for Bolivian specimens, is now restricted to plants from Java (where the type is from) and adjacent islands, and the new name for the Bolivian species is:
