Eutittha brevicalcarata (L. Koch, 1873) View in CoL , comb. nov.
Cheiracanthium brevicalcaratum L. Koch, 1873, p. 405 , pl. 31, figs 6–7 (description of syntypes ♀ and ♂ from AUSTRALIA: West Australia : Swan river (32°04 ʹ 25 ″ S, 115°42 ʹ 52 ″ E )) GoogleMaps . Deeleman-Reinhold 2001, p. 231, figs 282–285 (♂ ♀).
Comments
This species was originally described in the genus Cheiracanthium and it has recently been well redescribed and illustrated by Deeleman-Reinhold (2001). Deeleman-Reinhold firstly drew attention to the differences of this species from typical Cheiracanthium . She included E. brevicalcarata in a separate species group ( Deeleman-Reinhold 2001, p. 227). Here, we establish a new combination, since this species shares characteristics with E. insulana (in female copulatory organs): oblong atrium anteriorly bounded by rim, dumbbell-shaped spermathecae; its conspecific male is characterised by tegular apophysis absent, elongate symmetric cymbium with narrow cymbial fold and cymbial spur short.
In the ‘Variability’ section for C. brevicalcaratum, Deeleman-Reinhold (2001, p. 233) notes that Indonesian specimens differ from West Australian ones: ‘ The examined specimens from Australia do not show a darkening of head and chelicerae and the subcutaneous abdominal spots dorsally and ventrally are denser; moreover, some specimens have a reddish brown midline; the Australian male is smaller: 9.0 mm and tibia III is spineless’. Such colouration and size are well consistent with the description of specimens of the type series ( Koch 1873). It can be assumed that a close but different species of Eutittha lives in the Lombok Island , Indonesia .
Distribution
Australia: West Australia ( Koch 1873), Wannerup (Busselton) salt marsh (33.62°S, 115.4°E), Meelup Regional Park (33°33 ʹ N, 115°04 ʹ E) ( Deeleman-Reinhold 2001) (see also ALA 2020). Indonesia: Lombok Island (8.565°S, 116.351°E) ( Deeleman-Reinhold 2001).
