Type:— COLOMBIA. Nariño: Municipio Barbacoas, corregimiento Altaquer , Vereda El Barro , El Barro , Reserva Natural Río Nambi , 8 December 1993, J. Betancur et al. 4743 (holotype: COL!; isotypes: HUA! MO) .

Terrestrial trees, 1.5–8.0 m tall. Leaf blade 7.5–15 cm long, 2.5–4.2 cm wide, elliptic, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, base cuneate to obtuse, apex acuminate to caudate, puberulent; secondary veins 15–24 pairs; petiole 0.7–2.3 cm long, puberulent, periderm persistent; stipules caducous, 1.5–3.0 cm long, puberulent. Syconia solitary; peduncle 4.0–6.0 mm long, puberulent; lateral bracts sometimes present; receptacle 0.8–1.1 cm in diam. when dry, puberulent, apex rounded ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 ).

Distribution and habitat in Colombia: — Nariño, in premontane rainforests at elevations of 1200–1600 m ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
