16. Ficus santanderana Dugand (1942: 65) .

Type:— COLOMBIA. Santander: vicinity of Tona, Eastern Cordillera , 17 February 1927, E. P. Killip et A. C. Smith 19749 (holotype: US!; isotypes: A!, GH-34535! GH-46047!) .

Terrestrial trees, 7–25 m tall. Leaf blade 11–18 cm long, 6.0– 9.5 cm wide, elliptic, chartaceous, apex acute to acuminate, base cuneate, puberulent adaxially, hispid or puberulent abaxially, secondary veins 13–16 pairs; petiole 2.0–4.0 cm long, glabrous, periderm flaking off; stipules 3.0–6.0 cm long, caducous, hispid. Syconia solitary; peduncle 3.0–7.0 mm long, puberulent; lateral bracts absent; receptacle 1.7–2.5 cm in diam. when dry, muricate, hispid, apex rounded ( Fig. 9A View FIGURE 9 ).

Distribution and habitat in Colombia: — Antioquia, Caquetá, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Nariño and Tolima in montane forests of the Andes at elevations between 1500–2300 m ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).

Notes:— Ficus santanderana was considered a synonym of F. tonduzii by DeWolf (1965), but Ficus santanderana differs by its leaf blade width (6.0–9.5 vs. 10–18 cm), length of the secondary veins (2.5–5.5 vs. 6.5–11.5 cm), petiole length (2.0–4.0 vs. 5.0– 9.5 cm), and peduncle length (3.0–7.0 vs. 1.0–2.0 mm). Ficus santanderana was considered a synonym of F. mutisii by Berg (2009), but differs by basal lateral veins (extending to 1/8 the length of leaf vs. 1/ 16 in F. mutisii ), and receptacle (1.7–2.5 vs. 0.8–1.2 cm diam.).
