Figs 66–70 View FIGURES 66 – 70

Description. Male (holotype). Body length 3.7 mm. Body brownish, elytra with indication of paler transverse band in basal fourth; legs and antennae brownish, distal antennomeres slightly darker.

Head 1.2 times as long as wide, its base moderately produced medially, differentiated from short neck; tempora strongly narrowing posteriad, posterior angles absent. Eyes medium-sized, rather convex. Dorsal surface moderately glossy, distinctly punctate and largely corrugated, with indication of smooth, impunctate median strip posteriorly; punctures distinctly separated. Setation short, subdecumbent; few tactile setae. Antennae moderately enlarged in terminal third; antennomere X 1.4 times, XI 2.3 times as long as wide.

Pronotum 1.4 times as long as wide, moderately narrower than head including eyes, evenly rounded anteriorly, strongly narrowed and distinctly impressed (constricted) postero-laterally in dorsal view; pronotal disc nearly evenly convex in lateral view. Surface glossy; antero-lateral sides minutely and sparsely punctate, nearly impunctate near procoxal cavities; disc more distinctly and densely punctate, especially posteriorly, weakly transversely corrugated and very slightly bulging before smooth antebasal area; postero-lateral impressions longitudinally wrinkled, adjacent dorso-lateral surface rugose. Setation as on head.

Mesosternum with slight indication of rounded median longitudinal bulge. Metasternum simple.

Elytra 1.8 times as long as wide, rounded apically; humeri distinct; postscutellar impression absent. Surface glossy, distinctly punctate; punctation double, setiferous punctures rather widely separted. Setation nearly evenly developed, sparser near base, generally longer than on head.

Metathoracic wings fully developed.

Fore legs modified ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 66 – 70 ); profemora with short tooth-like process, rounded apically, with short fringe of stiff setae subapically; protibiae nearly simple, with slight carina on inner side distally; penultimate tarsomere widened/flattened distally, with terminal tarsomere articulated dorsally near base in all tarsi. Metatibiae somewhat longer setose on inner side distally; tibiae with two terminal spurs, somewhat unequal in metatibiae (median spur moderately longer and more robust).

Abdominal sternum III with paired submedian longitudinal carinae in posterior half. Sternum VII simply emarginate ( Fig. 67 View FIGURES 66 – 70 ). Tergum VII simple, widely rounded posteriorly. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 68, 69 View FIGURES 66 – 70 ); paired prongs lobe-like, with angular posterior margins. Tergite VIII with simple paired sclerites somewhat unevenly, narrowly rounded apically, narrowly connected medially. Terminal sclerite of segment IX (spiculum) membranous and inconspicuous. Aedeagus ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 66 – 70 ); apical portion of tegmen 0.5 times as long as basal-piece, trilobed apically.

Female. Externally differing from male as follows: fore legs and abdominal sterna III, VII simple; metatibiae shortly setose, metatibial spurs subequal; tergum VII subtriangular, rounded apically.

Variation. Body length (♂ ♀) 3.7–4.0 mm. Additional female specimen generally darker coloured: head and pronotum reddish-brown, elytra largely nearly brownish black, with redddish base and transverse band (vaguely outlined), leg and antennae reddish-brown; pronotal disc rather densely, coarsely punctate and somewhat corrugated posteriorly; setation of elytra decumbent; numerous tactile setae (see Remarks).

Type material. Holotype, ♂: THAI, 28.IV.–6.V.1991 UMPHANG riv. 1000m 16°07′N 99°00′E Vít Kubáň leg. [p] (NMPC).

Additional specimens. Thailand: 1 ♀, same data as holotype ( ZKDC).

Differential diagnosis. Anthelephila insolita sp. nov. belongs to the A. fossicollis species-group. It can be easily recognized by the characters on the paired prongs of male sternite VIII.

Distribution. Thailand.

Etymology. From the Latin insolitus (uncommon), refering to low number of specimens examined.

Remarks. The holotype is somewhat immature, and thus paler coloured, with the setae of the elytra largely abraded; identification of female specimen is tentative, based on the same label data.
