Figs 98–101 View FIGURES 98 – 101 , 114 View FIGURES 107 – 114
Description. Male (holotype). Body length 3.5 mm. Head and pronotum brownish black; elytra brownish black, with conspicuous yellowish to pale reddish transverse band in basal third, narrowly interrupted on suture; legs and antennae dark brown to brownish-black, antennomeres more or less paler basally.
Head 1.2 times as long as wide, its base moderately produced medially, differentiated from short neck; tempora strongly narrowing posteriad, posterior angles absent. Eyes medium-sized, rather convex. Dorsal surface glossy, distinctly punctate, slightly corrugate anteriorly; punctures distinctly separated. Setation short, subdecumbent; few tactile setae. Antennae slightly enlarged and somewhat flattened in terminal third; antennomere X 1.6 times, XI 2.1 times as long as wide.
Pronotum 1.5 times as long as wide, distinctly narrower than head including eyes, nearly evenly rounded anteriorly, strongly narrowed and impressed (constricted) postero-laterally in dorsal view; pronotal disc convex, flattened to slightly impressed, uneven posteriorly in lateral view. Surface largely glossy; antero-lateral sides minutely and sparsely punctate, nearly impunctate near procoxal cavities; disc more distinctly and densely punctate, distinctly longitudinally corrugated dorso-laterally in posterior half, with some transverse wrinkles before smooth antebasal area; postero-lateral impressions distinctly, longitudinally wrinkled, adjacent dorso-lateral surface rugose. Setation as on head.
Mesosternum with distinct, rounded median longitudinal bulge, slightly convex in lateral view. Metasternum posteriorly with pair of short, longitudinal, apically setose, submedian projections.
Elytra 1.6 times as long as wide, conjointly rounded apically; humeri distinct; postscutellar impression at most slightly indicated. Surface glossy, distinctly punctate; punctures widely separated. Setation nearly evenly developed, sparser near base, generally longer than on head; some short tactile setae.
Metathoracic wings fully developed.
Fore legs modified ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 98 – 101 ); profemora with disctinct tooth-like process, bluntly pointed apically; protibiae moderately swollen, with distinct, apically rounded protrusion on inner side in distal half; penultimate tarsomere widened/flattened distally, with terminal tarsomere articulated dorsally near base for all tarsi. Setation normally developed; tibiae with two equal terminal spurs.
Abdominal sternum VII shallowly emarginate, with flattened process projecting from its dorsal side ( Fig. 99 View FIGURES 98 – 101 ). Tergum VII simple, evenly rounded posteriorly. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 100 View FIGURES 98 – 101 ); paired prongs comparatively short, simple, ventrally with small subapical lobule. Tergite VIII with simple paired sclerites evenly rounded apically, narrowly connected medially. Terminal sclerite of segment IX (spiculum) membranous, rounded and setose apically. Aedeagus ( Fig. 101 View FIGURES 98 – 101 ); apical portion of tegmen 0.8 times as long as basal-piece, trilobed apically.
Female. Externally differing from male as follows: median longitudinal bulge of mesosternum with pair of pointed projections laterally; fore legs, metasternum and abdominal sternum VII simple; tergum VII subtriangular, rounded apically.
Variation. Body length (♂ ♀) 3.3–3.7 mm. The specimen from Betong is somewhat paler, with head, pronotum and antennae reddish-brown.
Type material. Holotype, ♂: Thailand, 22.–26.iii.1996 Ranong prov. 9°34′98°42′ Ban Na env., K. Majer leg. [p] ( NMPC).
Paratypes: 1 ♀, THAILAND, Chumphon prov., Pha To env., 1–11.v.1998, P. Průdek & R. Šigut leg. [p] ( ZKDC) ; 1 ♀, S Thailand, Betong Gunung Cang dun vill. Yala dist., 25.3.– 22.4.1993 J. Horák leg. [p] ( ZKDC).
Differential diagnosis. Anthelephila triplex sp. nov. displays a rather conspicuous, contrastingly yellowish, antebasal transverse band of the elytra ( Fig. 114 View FIGURES 107 – 114 ). It can be easily recognized by male characters and by the peculiar modification of the median bulge of the female mesosternum.
Etymology. From the Latin triplex (triple), refering to the number of type specimens.
Distribution. Thailand.
