103. Euphorbia tsimbazazae Leandri
Notulae Systematicae 12: 162 (1946) . — Type: “ Jardin de Tsimbazaza nº 11, nov. dec.”, Boiteau s.n. (holo-, P! [ P00078021 ]).
REMARK
Leandri based this name on material sent from the botanical garden of Tsimbazaza by Boiteau in 1939 under nº 11. The specimen found at P (P00078021) comprises two labels, one from Boiteau’s hand (corresponding to the material sent by himself and thus likely dating from 1939). This label, the oldest, also bears a more recent handwritten mention incorrectly stating that the specimen was made by E. Ursch. The other label bears the collection number Leandri 2384 and the name Euphorbia leandriana Boiteau , and likely dates from when Ursch & Leandri (1954) attributed to the plant cultivated under nº 11 in the Park ofTsimbabaza, the name of E.leandriana Boiteau. while being doubtful on the validity of E. tsimbazazae Leandri. Rauh (1992c) attached the name of E. leandriana to the type of E. tsimbazazae emphasizing the fact that both E. leandriana and E. tsimbazazae should be treated as dubious species due to inconsistencies between illustrations and specimens in ( Ursch & Leandri 1954; Leandri 1946, 1953). We decided not to take into account for now the contradicting taxonomic hypotheses proposed by these authors and instead to follow the strict interpretation of the protologues and specimens available.
