Remarks: This member of the alpinum -species group was recently re-described (Pilato & Binda 1998) from material collected on Robinson Crusoe Island but Dastych (2002) has questioned this redescription (as incompatible with the Code of Zoological Nomenclature) and the problem with this taxon is still unresolved. This group is taxonomically difficult to resolve so the presence of this species throughout South America, should be verified.
