Range: —Antilles; central Mexico to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, PA, SC, TA); northern Argentina and Brazil; introduced in the Old World tropics.
Ecology: —Very common; on raw soils of landslides, roadbanks, cleared hillsides, and river banks, rarely inside thickets or forests; 100–1400(–2000) m.
Notes: —Basal pinnae equilateral, not elongated on the basiscopic sides; farina white to pale yellow, rarely lacking (then segments abaxially without hairs, unlike P. ochracea ). Hybrids are known with other species, including P. ferruginea and P. ebenea .
