Doryopteris palmata (Willd.) J.Sm., J. Bot. (Hooker) View in CoL 4: 163. 1841.
= Doryopteris pedata (L.) Fée var. palmata (Willd.) Hicken, Revista Mus. La Plata 15: 253. 1908.
Range: —Southern Mexico to Costa Rica; Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia ( CH, LP, SC, TA).
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial in semideciduous forests, on hillsides, and in crevices in rock walls; 200– 1450 m.
Notes: —Leaves to 40 cm long. Blades 2-pinnate-pinnatifid to rarely 3-pinnate-pinnatisect; petioles dark brown to atropurpureous, more or less terete, 0.5–2 mm thick; petioles with acicular hairs and ovate-lanceolate scales; buds present at blade bases; sterile blades adaxially with hydathodes; soral lines discontinuous in the sinuses. A similar species is D. raddiana (C.Presl) Fée , now regarded as confined to northeastern to southeastern Brazil ( Yesilyurt 2008b); a synonym of D. raddiana is D. pedata (L.) Fée var. multipartita (Fée) R.M.Tryon , another name also applied to Bolivian specimens. Doryopteris palmata appears to be generally less dissected than D. raddiana .
