Gibbesia prasinolineata ( Dana, 1852)
( Fig. 1C, D View FIGURE 1 )
Squilla prasinolineata Dana, 1852: 620 ; 1855: 13, pl. 61, figs. 3a–c.— Ives, 1891: 184.— Rathbun, 1899: 628.— Lemos de Castro, 1955: 15, text-figs. 12–15, pl. 3, fig. 35, pl. 13, fig. 46.— Manning, 1969: 175, figs. 49–50a.—Gomes- Corrêa, 1998: 290.
Gibbesia prasinolineata .— Ahyong, 2001:184.
Diagnosis. Rostral plate subtriangular. Median carina of carapace without anterior bifurcation. Dactylus of raptorial claw with 5 teeth. Mandibular palp present. 4 epipods present. Lateral process of fifth thoracic somite simple, apex acute, forming a triangular projection. Telson concave, wider than long, with 3 pairs of marginal teeth; prelateral lobe present; posterior margin with dilate lateral denticle, 4–8 triangular intermediate denticles and 2–4 lobular submedian denticles; ventral surface with postanal tubercle. Proximal segment of exopod of uropod with 8 or 9 movable spines.
Distribution. Western Atlantic: Florida, Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Virgin Islands and Brazil (Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina). The species is found in shallow waters on mud bottoms, at depths from 35 to 75 meters.
Remarks. Manning & Heard (1997), when they established the genus Gibbesia , used the genus Squilla sensu Manning, 1969 for comparison. However, the characters that they used (presence of 5 teeth on the dactylus of the raptorial claw and absence of mandibular palp) are also found in the genera Alima Leach, 1817 and Cloridopsis Manning, 1968 , in the Atlantic. The presence of a lateral process on the bilobate fifth thoracic somite in the genus Alima , the presence of 2 or 3 epipods in the genus Cloridopsis and the presence of 6 teeth on the dactylus of the raptorial claw and 4 or more epipods in the genus Squilla differentiate these genera from Gibbesia .
