Figs 139–143 View FIGURES 134–141 View FIGURES 142–147 , 226–227 View FIGURES 224–234 .
Penthimia nitida Distant 1912: 444 View in CoL ; 1918: 21. Junior homonym of P. nitida Lethierry, 1876 View in CoL . Penthimia distanti Baker 1924: 367 View in CoL , nom. nov. for P.nitida Distant 1912 View in CoL nec Lethierry 1876.
“Head, pronotum, scutellum, and tegmina (excluding apical area) shining black, apical area of tegmen greyish subhyaline, outwardly and inwardly ochraceous, more or less extending upward to the opaque black area; body beneath black; head rounded in front, the anteruior margin somewhat acutely reflexed; pronotum moderately convex, slightly wrinkled, and sparingly coarsely punctate; scutellum opaquely black, thickly finely punctate; tegmina (excluding apical area) coarsely puncate; posterior legs suffused with black, posterior tibiae strongly spinose, the tarsi ochraceous. Long. 4mm ”. ( Distant, 1912: 444).
Male genitalia. Subgenital plate triangular with short hairlike setae. Preapical lobe of style well developed, apical apophysis long, fingerlike with corrugated lateral margin at apex. Aedeagus with well developed bilobed dorsal apodeme, preatrium short, shaft tubular directed caudally at base, then erect dorsally, abruptly tapered at apex, slightly curved forming hook; lateral margin serrated at apical 0.33, with V-shaped excavation at apex, gonopore apical.
Length. Male: “ 4mm ”
Type material examined. MAYANMAR: lectotype ♂ P. distanti Baker (here designated): ‘ Penthimia nitida Dist. Type [hw]’, ‘Moulmein’, ‘Distant coll.1911-383’ (BMNH).
Remarks. This species was described from an unknown number of specimens (syntypic) with the following data: ‘ Burma; Moulmein (Brit. Mus.)’. Subsequent to removal of the type's abdomen most of the specimen became detached from its mount and was lost; examination of the remaining thoracic parts on a short pin revealed glue had been used in the past to fix the specimen. From a previously taken image of the type ( Fig. 226 View FIGURES 224–234 ), the species is similar to several species, all predominantly black with the apical area of the forewing paler and with a relatively slender body (see under P. curvata ). In the male genitalia distanti is similar to P. curvata and P. meghalayensis but differs in the structure of the aedeagal shaft with the hook at the apex of shaft more elongate in lateral view.
