Type species. Hesperia pelopidas Fabricius, 1793.
Definition. A sister genus to Echelatus Godman and Salvin, [1894] (type species Anastrus varius Mabille, 1883, which is a junior subjective synonym of Anastrus sempiternus (Butler and Druce, 1872)) ( Fig. 6 View Figure 6 ). Species of this new genus were placed in Mylon (type species Leucochitonea lassia Hewitson, 1868) previously, key to E. 50.10 in Evans (1953), and were defined as the “pelopidas” group by Austin (2000) who gave a detailed morphological diagnosis on p. 5 and 7, which is not repeated here. Most importantly, the two unique diagnostic characters are: vinculum in male genitalia is expanded dorsad on both sides to cover most of tegumen and uncus arms are very short. In DNA, a combination of the following base pairs is diagnostic: aly 1735.8.1:T625C, aly3616.13.2:A50G, aly 1036.5.1:A436C, aly 1735.8.1:C695T, aly 1735.8.1:A772C.
Etymology. The name is a masculine noun in the nominative singular, for the vinculum expanded as a hood over tegumen.
Species included. The pelopidas species group as defined by Austin (2000), which consists of the type species, Mylon cristata Austin, 2000, Leucochitonea jason Ehrmann, 1907, Mylon ozema var. exstincta Mabille and Boullet, 1917 , Mylon simplex Austin, 2000, and Mylon argonautarum Austin, 2000.
Parent taxon. Subtribe Erynnina Brues and Carpenter, 1932.
