General distribution. Europe: Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, FYR Macedonia, Greece (incl. Crete), Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia. West Asia: Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey ( Zapparoli 2002; Minelli et al. 2006).
Chorotype. E-Mediterranean (EME).

Ecological notes. 0–2600 m; an euriecious species, common in open Quercus coccifera and Juniperus macrocarpa scrubs, in broadleaved woods ( Quercus spp., Castanea sativa , Populus sp.), in Platanus orientalis riparian woods, in mixed or pure forests with Abies cephalonica , Pinus nigra , Fagus sylvatica , in Mediterranean phrygana, in caves, and in agroecosystems ( Chamberlin 1956; Zapparoli 1994, 1996, 2002).
Remarks. The specimens from Peloponnisos are assigned to the subspecies Eupolybothrus litoralis graecus ( Verhoeff 1899) , according to Eason (1970).
