Dissomphalus beatrizae Brito & Azevedo , sp. nov.
( Figs 1C View FIGURE 1 , 3B View FIGURE 3 )
Diagnosis. This species is easily recognized by having the harpe wide basally, the basivolsella without protuberance, the apex of the aedeagal dorsal outer lobes laterad, the inner median filament directed dorsad and the anterior to the aedeagal dorsal lobes.
Description. Head. Mandible with two distal teeth. Median clypeal lobe subtrapezoidal, with three teeth; median clypeal carina low in profile, incomplete apically, arched in profile. Frons coriaceous, punctures small and sparse. Vertex crest straight or nearly so. Dorsal pronotal area with anterior margin ecarinate. Tergal process submedian, consisting of tuft with few setae, without depression. Posterior hypopygeal margin incurved medially. Genitalia. Harpe wide basally, apical margin truncate, abaxial margin not projected; gonostipes shorter than harpe, ventral margin not excavated until outer margin of basivolsella; digitus short, basidorsal corner strongly projected; basivolsella without protuberance, without spines; aedeagal ventral valve with apex aligned with apex of dorsal one, wide, progressively narrowing apicad; inner margin slightly sinuous; outer margin slightly sinuous, parallel; aedeagal dorsal valve narrow, with two pairs of apical lobe; outer lobe long, very narrow, apical margin acute, and laterad; apex of inner median filament anterior to apex of lobe, directed dorsad; basal cover plate entirely narrow, posterior margin slightly incurved medially; apodeme extending beyond genital ring.
Material examined. Holotype, 1♂: COSTA RICA, San Vito de Coto Brus , Las Cruces 1200 m, 7–14.VIII.1982, B.Gill mal. trap ( CNCI).
Distribution. Costa Rica.
Etymology. This species is named after Maria Beatriz do Nascimento, who participated in black social movements and studied the quilombos.
Remarks. It is similar to D. ameliae sp. nov. by having the aedeagal dorsal lobes narrow and inner median filament anterior to the aedeagal dorsal lobes and the basivolsella without protuberance. However, D. beatrizae sp. nov. has the dorsal margin of harpe wide basally, and abaxial margin of not pointed anterad and aedeagal dorsal lobes short, whereas D. ameliae sp. nov. has the dorsal margin of harpe not wide basally, the abaxial margin of harpe pointed anterad and aedeagal dorsal lobes long.
