Description. Body elongate, somewhat broad, relatively flat, pubescent. Head rather large, eyes present. Antennae 11-segmented, antennomeres 10,11 with small groups of sensillae. Mentum slightly tapering towards base, longer than wide, anterior margin concave. Pronotum broader than long, sides curved, front and hind margins almost straight, hind angles rounded, not produced rearwards, with a projecting setae. Elytra slightly longer than wide, subtruncate apically exposing up to four abdominal segments behind. Scutellum triangular. Wings of usual ptiliid type. Proventrum rather narrow in front of coxal cavities which are contiguous and open behind. Mesoventrum short, collar biconvex medially and barely sloping to side margins, hind margins straight either side of mesocoxae, sloping anteriorly to lateral margins, mesocoxae contiguous separated anteriorly by a narrow pointed keel which does not reach collar. Metaventrum hind margin straight, toothed mesad of coxae, metacoxae with rounded plates which stop short of the lateral margins, metacoxae separated by approximately one fifth of the metaventral width, trochanters with a comb-like fringe of setae. Pygidium bidentate, anterior border without setae. Male ventrite six with a +/- semicircular incision bordered anteriorly with a short row of small stout setae. Aedeagus rounded, almost square. Spermatheca small, duct threadlike.

The name of the genus is derived from both Smicrus and Acrotrichis , and also reflects the small size of the species; gender neuter. Type species: M. pectana sp. n..
