Type locality. Finnmark, Norway.
Type material. Not found
Records. USA: off Florida; Texas; Louisiana, 15–189 m, coarse to fine sand, silty sand, silty clayey sand, clayey silt ( Johnson 1984); Seahorse Key, Florida. Puerto Rico: Mayagüez ( Foster 1971a). Cuba: Batabano ( Ibarzabal 1986).
Remarks. Laonice cirrata is considered a cosmopolitan species. However, its presence is questionable in the Grand Caribbean. Specimens recorded from this region as L. cirrata are from different depths, and should be confirmed against the type material. Sikorskii (2002) re-described L. cirrata with numerous non type specimens, and its distribution was determined. Also, Sikorskii proposed new numerical characters for application in taxonomy of the genus.
