Botrodus dufaui Grouvelle

( Figs 28–34 View FIGURES 28–34 )

Botrodus dufaui Grouvelle in Grouvelle & Raffray, 1912: 297.

Type material examined. Lectotype ( Guadeloupe) [here designated by A. Ślipiński], sex unknown, “Guadeloupe, Dufau”, “Type”, “ B. dufaui Ty Grouv. ” ( MNHN) . Paralectotype: ♂, same data as for lectotype [specimen disarticulated, mounted in Canada balsam and placed on the same pin as lectotype] ( MNHN) .

Diagnosis. Body moderately dark brown; elytra in lateral view evenly rounded; clypeus convex laterally, with anteromedian subtriangular impression; lateral elytral margin visible in dorsal view near humerus and in posterior third; mesoventrite with lateral longitudinal carinae along mesal margins of mesocoxae; mesoventral plate with anterior margin evenly rounded; each paramere ~3.5 times as long as broad at base, with only apical setae.

Description. BL 1.20 mm; BL/EW 1.92. Body elongate ( Figs 28–29 View FIGURES 28–34 ) and in lateral view evenly, moderately convex ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 28–34 ); pigmentation moderately dark brown, head and pronotum slightly lighter than elytra, legs light brown; dorsum covered with moderately sparse, extremely short yellowish setae barely visible under magnification 40 ×; cuticle glossy with very fine and superficial microreticulation distinct on head, on pronotum and elytra traces of microreticulation are poorly discernible.

Head 0.30 mm wide; clypeus with convex sides and anteromedian subtriangular impression; frons weakly, evenly convex, both covered with dense and sharply marked but shallow and fine punctures separated by spaces subequal to their diameters (best discernible on frons behind eyes); eyes large, strongly convex, coarsely faceted.

Pronotum ( Figs 28–29 View FIGURES 28–34 ) strongly transverse, widest at base; PL 0.25 mm, PW 0.55 mm, PL/PW 0.45; lateral margins distinctly rounded in anterior half, posteriorly nearly straight, weakly convergent anterad, with narrow lateral carinae; disc along lateral carinae not flattened. Punctures on disc fine but distinct, sharply marked, slightly sparser than those on frons, punctures on anteromedian region separated by spaces slightly wider than their diameters, gradually reducing in diameter and depth towards sides and base of pronotum.

Prosternum ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 28–34 ) smooth, not microreticulate and with very fine, sparse punctures; notosternal carinae strongly curved outwards.

Elytra ( Figs 28–29, 31 View FIGURES 28–34 ) together oval, indistinctly rounded at sides, EL 0.90 mm, EW 0.63 mm, EL/EW 1.44. Lateral elytral margin visible in dorsal view near humerus and distinctly also in posterior third; elytral base ante- riorly convex; humerus with distinct, bulging callus; disc covered with punctures slightly sparser than those on pronotum.

Hind wings fully developed.

Mesoventral plate ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 28–34 ) with lateral longitudinal carinae and complete submarginal carina, anterior margin of plate evenly rounded.

Metaventrite ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 28–34 ) extremely finely and uniformly punctate; discrimen externally indiscernible.

Aedeagus ( Figs 33–34 View FIGURES 28–34 ) 0.48 mm long, with parameres in lateral view straight, each ~3.5 times as long as broad at base, with three long apical setae, lacking ventral and sub-basal setae; penis inconspicuous, slender, nearly tubular and in distal half indistinctly curved.

Distribution. Caribbean ( Guadeloupe).
