Didymium squamulosum (Alb. & Schwein.) Fr. & Palmquist View in CoL

Represented by one collection (31385), on canopy soil (pH 3.75). Didymium squamulosum is another species considered to be cosmopolitan, and it occurs on all types of plant debris. Members of the genus Didymium appear to be the most abundant myxomycetes in soil (Stephenson et al. 2011), so its occurrence in canopy soil is perhaps not surprising. A specimen of what appears to be this species was first reported from New Zealand by Berkley (1855).
