Japonaria erythrosoma Takakuwa, 1942: 40 View in CoL , gure 3, type (s) (YM, not examined) destroyed in re in 1945 by air raid on Matsuyama-shi, type locality: Kawaji, Fujiwara-machi, Shioya-gun, Tochigi Prefecture; Takakuwa, 1954: 81, gures 86, 87; Miyosi, 1959: 85, pl. 4, gure 67.
Parafontaria erythrosoma: Murakami, 1993: 99 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Similar to P. ishiii but separable from that species by the details of the distal part of the gonopods (gure 10A–D).
Male (based on male from Ôaraiisozaki-jinja Shrine, Ôarai-machi, Ibaraki Prefecture). Gonopodal characters as follows (gures 6A, B, 10A, B). Telopodite forming one and a half loops. Femur with mesal tooth, without femoral bend and lateral tooth. Tibiotarsal process bifurcate, located near tip, not completely visible in mesal view; apical process spatulate; mesal process slender; solenomerite forming small process.
Colour in life (based on same male as above). Tergites brownish orange, with brown stripes along posterior margins of metatergites and both anterior and posterior margins of collum.

Males 3, slightly without (N = modi 8) at: HW ed region as 2.85 in on (gure 2.6 posterior – 13 3.0 A)., MTW 4.10 (3.7–4.5). Females (N =6): HW 3.43 (3.3–3.7), MTW 5.00 (4.7–5.4). Distribution (gure 2). Honshu: Ibaraki and Tochigi Prefectures.
Specimens examined. Ibaraki Prefecture: Ôaraiisozaki-jinja Shrine, 20 m alt., Ôarai-machi, Higashiibaraki-gun , 1 June 1987 ( TT), seven males, 25 females . Locality and collector as above, 29 July 1987 ( TT), one male . Tochigi Prefecture: Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obtusa mixed forest, Mt Sekison-san, Ashikaga-shi , 11 September 1981 (K.
