61. Argyresthia (Argyresthia) convexa , sp. nov. ( Figs. 72 View FIGURES 68 – 75 , 137 View FIGURES 132 – 137 , 193 View FIGURES 190 – 193 , 249 View FIGURES 245 – 252 , 295 View FIGURES 293 – 295 )
Description. Adult ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 68 – 75 ) wingspan 15.0̄17.0 mm. Head white. Labial palpus grayish white, mixed with blackish gray. Antenna with scape white, pecten dark fuscous; flagellum black, dotted with grayish white on each flagelomere dorsally. Fore- and midlegs blackish fuscous on inner surface, yellowish white on outer surface; hindleg predominantly yellowish white. Thorax white; tegula blackish gray, mixed with white. Forewing ratio 4.6; ground color grayish white, scattered with blackish gray scales on distal 1/5; costa with several black dots; black streak below basal 2/5 of fold, extended to dorsum distally; dorsal band white; dorsal fascia black, from before middle of wing reaching distal 1/3 of costa; tornus with a black spot; cilia grayish white, mixed with black on tornus. Hindwing gray, cilia grayish white.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 137 View FIGURES 132 – 137 , 193 View FIGURES 190 – 193 , 249 View FIGURES 245 – 252 ): Tuba analis shorter than width of valva. Socius covered with 15̄17 scale-like setae, bearing two minute setae posteriorly ( Fig. 249 View FIGURES 245 – 252 ). Gnathos not inflated distally, without long thick setae apically. Valva widest at basal 4/9, dorsal margin nearly straight, slightly convex medially, ventral margin remarkably convex before middle; with a clump of long setae in disc near ventral margin, partial setae furcated distally, some similar setae in distal area. Saccus shorter than width of valva, slightly triangular. Phallus slightly arched, 4.0 times as long as width of valva ( Fig. 193 View FIGURES 190 – 193 ). Second sternite with about 20 micro-setae in each row; eighth sternite Y-shaped. Coremata present.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 295 View FIGURES 293 – 295 ): Ovipositor 2.3 times as long as eighth segment. Anterior apophysis 5/6 length of posterior apophysis, bifurcate at distal 2/5, with branches fused, forming ventral margin of ostium bursae. Lamella postvaginalis nearly rectangular. Antrum funnel-shaped, 1/3 length of eighth segment. Ductus bursae spinulate before and near opening of ductus seminalis; ductus seminalis originating from anterior 2/5 of ductus bursae. Corpus bursae oval, densely denticulated posteriorly; signum with basal plate band-shaped, nearly uniform in width; horns extending horizontally, slightly backward, anchor-shaped in general.
Type material. CHINA: Holotype, Ƌ, Rize (33.12°N, 103.88°E), Jiuzhaigou GoogleMaps , Sichuan Province, 2700 m, 9.viii.2002, leg. Shulian Hao, slide no. LTT12502 . Paratype: 1♀, same data as holotype, except 13.viii.2002, slide no. LTT12728 GoogleMaps .
Distribution. China (Sichuan).
Diagnosis. This species is extremely large with the wingspan ranging from 15.0 to 17.0 mm. It resembles A. (A.) cuprea in the male genitalia, but in A. (A.) convexa the valva has the ventral margin remarkably convex before the middle, and the phallus is slightly curved. In A. (A.) cuprea the ventral margin of the valva is slightly convex, and the phallus is almost straight. In the forewing pattern, the dorsal band is grayish white in A. (A.) convexa and bronze fuscous in A. (A.) cuprea .
Etymology. The specific name is derived from convexus, referring to the ventral margin of the valva.
