SOLENYSA MELLOTEEI SIMON, 1894 ( FIGS 7B, 11H)

Solenysa mellottei Simon, 1894: 677 ; Lee et al., 2004: 100.

Solenysa melloteei Oi, 1960: 153 , figs 52–54; Tu & Li, 2006b: 91, figs 21–30.

Solenysa mellotteei Yaginuma, 1986: 78 View in CoL , fig. 42.2; Irie & Saito, 1987: 23, fig. 21; Chikuni, 1989: 56, fig. 48.

Material examined: JAPAN: no detailed collection data, one male and on female ( IZCAS); JAPAN: Esuzaki, Susami-cho , Wakayama Prefecture (33.50°N, 135.57°E), coll. Yoshito Ishii, 24.viii.1981, one male and three females ( CNU) GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis: Males of S. melloteei can be distinguished from other congeneric species by the horn-shaped third branch of the lamella characteristica and by the truncate anterior terminal apophysis ( Fig. 7B). The apple-shaped epigynum ( Fig. 11H) is very similar to that of S. partibilis and S. akihisai sp. nov., but it differs in the shape of the epigynal collar: somewhat rectangular in S. melloteei ; lateral sides more rounded in S. partibilis ( Fig. 11I) and inversed equilateral triangular in S. akihisai ( Fig. 8I).

Description: See Tu & Li (2006b).

Remarks: Simon’s (1894: 677) original spelling of the name of this species was ‘ Solenysa mellottei ’. Simon named the new species after its collector (A. Mellotée), although unfortunately he did not use the correct spelling of the collector’s last name (Hirotsugu Ono, pers. comm.). Oi (1960) corrected the spelling to ‘ melloteei ’ and Yaginuma (1986) misspelled as ‘ mellotteei ’. Simon’s original spelling (‘ mellottei ’) is deemed an ‘incorrect original spelling’ and thus Oi’s (1960) emendation of the spelling is the valid species name.

Natural history: Unknown.

Distribution: Japan ( Fig. 22 View Figure 22 ).
