Pseudanabaena mucicola (Naumann et Huber-Pestalozzi) Schwabe (1964: 32)

Basionym: Phormidium mucicola Naumann et Huber-Pestalozzi in Huber-Pestalozzi & Naumann (1929: 69, 86, figs. 1‒6).

Strains: —CHAB1147 (KM386850) from a small pond in Wuhan city, Hubei Province; CHAB2966 (KM386852) from Lake Taihu; CHAB721 (KM386849) from a small pond in Kunming city, Yunnan Province; CHAB717 (KM386848) from Lake Liangzi in Hubei province; CHAB7002 (KM386851) from Lake Lushui in Hubei Province.

Habitat:— Freshwater, planktonic or epiplanktic, within or on the suface of mucilage of planktic cyanobacteria (e.g. Microcystis aeruginosa ( Kützing 1833: 371) Kützing (1846: 6)) .

Description: —Trichomes solitary or sticking to the surface of mucilage of Microcystis in the field.Macroscopically, the cultures blue green, pale blue green or brown ( Fig. 1A ). Trichomes pale blue-green, pale blue-grey, or tending to colorless, solitary, straight or slightly bend, short, 3‒6 celled, clearly constricted at cross-walls, without sheath or with diffluent, colorless mucilage, some with gibbous end. Cells cylindrical, without gas vesicle, 0.7‒3.5 μm long, 0.6‒3.7 μm wide, and 0.5‒3.8 L/W ( Table 1). Cells content homogeneous. Thylakoids with 6 parallel layers ( Fig. 2A ).
