Limnesia jaczewskii Biesiadka, 1977 , nov. syn.

According to the original description ( Biesiadka 1977), Limnesia jaczewskii differs from L. connata in body size, the position and size of the acetabula, the shape of the palp and the attachment and number of swimming setae. Furthermore, L. jaczewskii has two posterodorsal platelets, while L. connata should have only one. However, Tuzovskij (1997) showed that populations of L. connata include specimens with both, unpaired and paired dorsal platelets. According to Biesadka (1977) the palp of L. connata should be more slender, but Tuzovskij’s (1997) L. connata have a similar palp as L. jaczewskii . As no correlation can be found between these character states and body size, position and size of the acetabula and swimming setation of legs, Limnesia jaczewskii should be considered a junior synonym of L. connata .
