Aphelocheirus aestivalis (Fabricius) Found the benthos of rivers and streams with a more or less strong currents, and in lakes, sometimes in brackish waters, at depths of 0.5 to 9 m. The type of bottom can be quite varied, from rocky, sandy and clayey silt, covered with vegetation, shells, or contaminated to a greater or lesser extent; zoophage (prey includes larvae of aquatic insects, crustaceans and other arthropods); semivoltine, mating takes place in the 3rd year; larvae overwinter for two years: usually as Stage I in the first year as and Stage IV for the second; have been reported to overwinter on the bottom of water bodies in the egg stage, as larvae of all stages, and as adults of all ages ( Saettem 1986). West Eurasian.

In rivers; demersal rheophile; zoophages (larvae of aquatic Diptera , mayflies, caddis flies); semivoltine, mating takes place on the 3rd year; overwinter on the bottom of water bodies in the egg stage, in all larval stages and as adults ( Kanyukova 1974). Turkestan-Turanian.
