On moist soil at the edges of shorelines of lakes and rivers, in wet mosses in wetlands, on the surface of quiet waters and on floating leaves of plants near the shore ( Kanyukova 2006); hydrophilic, but not aquatic; zoophage (preys on small invertebrates); univoltine; imago overwinters on land. West Palearctic.
