Semi-terrestrial, occur on the banks of ponds, in wet soil, on rocks, and mosses, also found on the water surface along the shores of standing or slow moving water bodies, occasionally in wetlands; zoophage (preys on small aquatic arthropods); multivoltine; overwinters as imago ( Kanyukova 2006). Holarctic.

Microvelia reticulata (Burmeister)

Widespread, forms aggregations in lakes and ponds, and in seasonal and ephemeral water bodies, found on floating leaves of near-shore aquatic plants, and on wet soil, rocks and mosses along the shore; zoophage (preys on small aquatic insects); multivoltine; three generations annually are reported from the south of Britain ( Dolling 1991); overwinters as imago. Trans-Eurasian.

Velia saulii Tamanini

Found in shaded, undisturbed spring-fed streams, small rivers and small lakes in both mountain and lowland forested landscapes ( Kanyukova 2006), intolerant of pollution; found on top of the water surface film; zoophage (feeds on small aquatic insects); possibly univoltine; overwinters as imago ( Esenbekova 2008).
