Sinella decemoculata Uchida, 1940 .
Materials examined. Paratype (Province Kitami, Hokkaido, JAPAN) from the Museum d’Histoire Naturella (Geneva); 2 females and 1 male on slide and numerous in alcohol, CHINA: Jilin Province, Changchun City, Zoological garden, in litter, 18.vii.2009, collected by Z.X. Pan (sample number C9592); 1 female on slide and numerous in alcohol, CHINA: Jilin Province, Erdaobaihe Town, Changbai Mountain, in litter, 23.vii.2009, collected by J.X. Chen, Y.T. Ma & D.Y. Yu (sample number C9599); 3 female on slide, CHINA: Shandong Province, Zibo City, Linzi District, in soil and leaf litter under a peach tree, 13.vii.2006, collected by J. Li (sample number C9474). Female and 5 specimens in alcohol deposited in TZU, and others in NJU.
Redescription. Body length up to 1.6 mm. Both dorsal and ventral sides of body grey. Ant. I–III dark and Ant. IV pale ( Fig. 30 View FIGURE 30. S ).
Antenna 1.8–2.1 times as long as cephalic diagonal. Antennal segments ratio as I:II:III:IV = 1:2.1:1.9:4.0. Antennal basal smooth straight mic 3 dorsal and 3 ventral on Ant. I, 1 external, 1 internal and 1 ventral on Ant. II, and absent on Ant. III. Ant. III organ with 2 rod-like setae; seta 5 much shorter than others; seta 8 tapered ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ). Ommatidia 5+5. Labral papillae absent and labral intrusion U-shaped. Prelabral and labral setae 4/554, all smooth. Lateral process of labial palp thicker than normal setae, with tip beyond apex of labial papilla ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ). Subapical seta of maxillary outer lobe large, subequal to apical one; 3 smooth sublobal hairs on maxillary outer lobe. Proximal area of labium with 5 smooth setae. Labial setae as MREL1L2, all smooth; seta R 0.5 times as seta M in length. Ventral setae X, X 2 and X4 weakly ciliate; X3 absent ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ). Dorsal cephalic chaetotaxy with 4 antennal (An), 5 sutural (S) mac and 5 mac in Gr. II ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ).
Th. II with 3 (4) (m1, m2, m 2i; m 1i rarely present) medio-medial, 3 (m4, m4p, m 4i) medio-lateral, 19–22 posterior mac and 3 s-chaetae (ms internal to s); p4 as mac ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ). Th. III with 29 mac and 2 s-chaetae; p5, m6p, a7 and m7 as mic ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ). Trochanteral organ with 13–15 smooth spiny setae, 9–12 in arms and 3–4 between them ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 31 – 37. S ). Some inner differentiated tibiotarsal setae “smooth” with ciliations not closely appressed to axis; inner outstanding mac ciliate and tapered at tip, located at about 0.33 distance from base. Ungual inner basal paired teeth unequal, outer one much larger. Unguiculus with a large outer tooth. Tenent hair acuminate on fore and mid legs, clavate on hind leg ( Figs 38, 39 View FIGURES 38 – 42. S ).
Abd. I with 6 (m 2i, a3, m2–4, m4p) central mac and 2 s-chaetae (1 ms and 1 s, Fig. 40 View FIGURES 38 – 42. S ). Abd. II with 4 (a2, m3, m3e, m3ep) central, 1 (m5) lateral mac and 2 s-chaetae ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 38 – 42. S ). Abd. III with 1 (m3) central, 3 (am6, pm6, p6) lateral mac and 3 s-chaetae (1 ms, 2 s, Fig. 42 View FIGURES 38 – 42. S ). Abd. IV with 7 central, 6 (F1, E2–4, E2p, D3) lateral mac, 11 elongated s and 2 s of normal length ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 43 – 48. S ). Abd. V with about 40 setae and 3 s-chaetae; setae m2, m3 and m5 much larger than others ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 43 – 48. S ). Tenaculum with 4+4 teeth and one large striate seta on corpus. Ventral tube anteriorly with 7+7 ciliate setae on each side ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 43 – 48. S ); posteriorly with 11 smooth setae, 4 in distal row ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 43 – 48. S ); each lateral flap with 9–10 setae with few of them weakly ciliate ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 43 – 48. S ). Manubrium without smooth setae. Manubrial plaque with 2 pseudopores and 4 ciliate setae ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 43 – 48. S ). Distal smooth part of dens as 1.3 times length of mucro. Mucro bidentate and basal spine short with tip reaching apex of subapical tooth.
Distribution. Japan, Korea, China (Jilin and Shandong).
Remarks. S. umesaoi was described from Japan ( Yosii 1940, later it was recorded by Yosii and Lee (1963) from Korea, then by Chen & Shin (1990) from China (Province Jilin). The newly examined specimens were collected from Northeast China (Province Jinlin and Shandong) and they are close to Japanese and Korean, and all coincide well with the paratype.
The grey body and pigmented basal three antennal segments is the most remarkable discriminating characters from that of other Sinella species. It looks like Entomobrya in appearance but possesses 5+5 eyes. The present specimens are coincident well with Uchida’s (1940), but with different tenent hair to Yosii’s description (1940) (pointed on each tibiotarus in Yosii’s, but pointed on fore and mid tibiotarus and clavate on hind in Uchida’s and present specimens). Given the known records, it seems to be widely distributed in East Asia ( Japan, Korea, Northeast China).
