Polynemula rufosignata Ogloblin, 1967 View in CoL
( Figs 1–5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 )
Polynemula rufosignata Ogloblin 1967: 190 View in CoL –192, 193 (figure of the mesosoma). Type locality: José C. Paz, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Polynemula rufosignata Ogloblin View in CoL : De Santis 1979: 376 (catalog); Yoshimoto 1990: 68 (list); Loiácono et al. 2005: 17 (type information, incorrectly stated as being lost).
Type material. Holotype female [ MLPA, examined], on slide labeled: " Polynemula rufosignata A. Ogl. Holotypus J. C. Paz Pcia B. Aires 17–IX.1961 ". Paratype female [ MLPA, examined], on slide labeled: " J. C. Paz. Pcia B. Aires 10.XII.1961. Polynemula rufosignata A. Ogl. Det. A. Ogloblin ". The paratype specimen is uncleared but otherwise in fair condition, mounted laterally, with one antenna detached from the head.
Additional material examined. ARGENTINA. Buenos Aires, Tigre, 34°23’50’’S 58°34’32’’W, 5 m, 9– 16.xi.2005, G. Logarzo [1 female on point, UCRC].
Redescription. FEMALE (holotype, paratype, and non-type specimen from Tigre). Body length 1149– 1296. Head dark brown, rest of body ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) mostly brown except pronotum, petiole, parts of mesopleura, and basal gastral terga a little lighter (light brown to brown). Appendages light brown except flagellum, most of meso- and metatibiae, and apical tarsomeres brown.
Antenna ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) with scape and pedicel sparsely setose, flagellum more densely so. Scape excluding radicle about 4.2 x as long as wide, smooth, radicle short and fused with the rest of scape; pedicel smooth, about 2.5 x as long as wide, longer than F1; F2 the longest funicular segment; F3 longer than F4; F4 about as long as F5 and longer than F6; F6 the widest funicular segment; clava large, about 2.9 x as long as wide, longer than combined length of three preceding segments.
Mesosoma ( Figs 2, 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) with inconspicuous cellulate sculpture on mesoscutum and scutellum. Pronotum long (medial length about half length of mesoscutum), with 4 pairs of dorsal setae; mesoscutum a little wider than long; axillar seta short and weak; scutellum about as wide as long; metanotum with a pair of weak setae; propodeum about as long as scutellum.
Wings ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Forewing 4.3–4.4 x as long as wide; disc slightly infumate, more so submedially (as a conspicuous darker cross-band), densely setose beyond venation; longest marginal seta 1/2–3/5 greatest width of disc. Hind wing 28–31 x as long as wide; disc slightly infumate medially, with 2 complete rows of setae along margins; longest marginal seta about 3.5 x greatest width of disc.
Metasoma ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) longer than mesosoma. Petiole with inconspicuous transverse wrinkles (striations) medially. Gaster ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) very long, accommodating a very long ovipositor, which occupies more than its entire length; ovipositor length:metatibia length ratio about 2.2:1.
Measurements (holotype). Mesosoma: 621; gaster: 800; ovipositor: 929. Antenna: scape (including radicle): 167; pedicel: 82; F1: 45; F2: 109; F3: 82; F4: 61; F5: 61; F6: 52; clava: 200. Forewing: 1292:300; longest marginal seta: 142. Hind wing: 990:35; longest marginal seta: 124.
MALE. Unknown.
Distribution. Argentina (Buenos Aires).
