Rosalbopsis wappesi View in CoL sp. nov. ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 8. 1 – 4 )

Description. Female. Integument dark brown; scape dark reddish-brown basally, gradually lighter toward apex; antennomeres reddish-brown, gradually brown toward distal segments; legs mostly dark reddish-brown, lighter on basal half of metatibiae.

Head. Frons, area between lower eye lobes and antennal tubercles impunctate; with white pubescence almost obscuring integument; with one long, erect, dark, thick setae close to upper eye lobes. Area between upper eye lobes with dense yellow pubescence except narrow glabrous band along coronal suture (widened toward antennal tubercles). Area between upper eye lobes and prothoracic margin with wide central band of dense yellow pubescence; remaining surface with minute yellowish pubescence distinctly exposing integument (more whitish and distinct toward area behind eyes). Area behind upper eye lobes with sub-triangular area of yellow pubescence obscuring integument, connected to pubescence between upper eye lobes and lower eye lobes by narrow band close to eye; remaining surface with minute yellowish pubescence distinctly exposing integument. Area behind lower eye lobes with yellow pubescence obscuring integument, gradually white toward genal area. Gena with white pubescence except glabrous area close to apex; with one long, dark, thick seta. Postclypeus with whitish pubescence not obscuring integument, interspersed with long, black and yellowish setae directed forward. Labrum convex, with short, decumbent yellowish setae interspersed with long, thick, moderately abundant black and yellowish setae directed forward. Submentum with decumbent white pubescence partially obscuring integument on elevated area close to mentum, interspersed with long, erect, thick black setae. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.2 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes 0.6 times length of scape. Antennae 2.1 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at distal quarter of antennomere VII; antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.92; pedicel = 0.13; IV = 1.30; V = 1.23; VI = 1.11; VII = 1.04; VIII = 0.96; IX = 0.90; X = 0.85; XI = 0.85.

Thorax. Prothorax slightly wider than long (1.1 times). Pronotum impunctate, with transverse sulcus on basal and distal quarters; with three wide, longitudinal bands of dense yellow pubescence; remaining surface with decumbent, white pubescence not obscuring integument (sparser on some areas). Sides of prothorax with white pubescence not obscuring integument on wide band close to pronotum, with dense band of yellow pubescence obscuring integument on wide area close to ventral side, except narrow transverse sulcus near distal margin. Prosternum with white pubescence laterally, gradually yellowish toward center, except on narrow, glabrous transverse sulcus near distal margin. Prosternal process with yellow pubescence obscuring integument. Mesosternum with whitish pubescence not obscuring integument (denser on lateral lobes). Mesosternal process with yellow pubescence obscuring integument. Mesepisternum, mesepimeron and metepisternum with yellow pubescence obscuring integument. Metasternum with narrow band with yellow pubescence obscuring integument close to metepisternum, with wide band with decumbent white pubescence not obscuring integument on close to lateral yellow band, with wide central band with yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument (more yellow basally). Scutellum with yellow pubescence obscuring integument. Elytra. Coarsely, abundantly punctate on basal half, smooth on distal half; with band of yellow pubescence along suture, reaching apex, longitudinal band of yellow pubescence close to lateral curvature of elytra, not reaching apex, longitudinal band of white pubescence, between discal yellow bands, shorter than yellow lateral band, longitudinal band of white pubescence on center of vertical area, becoming inconspicuous toward distal quarter, longitudinal band of white pubescence close to epipleura, becoming inconspicuous after basal half; remaining surface with yellowish-white and white pubescence exposing integument. Legs. Femora with white pubescence not obscuring integument, more yellowish dorsally.

Abdomen. Ventrites with wide, dense band of yellow pubescence laterally, with wide band of yellow pubescence centrally (gradually narrowed, yellowish, less dense from I to V); remaining surface with white pubescence exposing integument. Ventrite V with thick, black, erect setae near apex; apex widely emarginate centrally.

Variation. Femora dark brown; pro- and mesotibia mostly dark brown; apex of metatibiae dark brown; longitudinal white bands on elytra distinctly yellowish, mainly basally; central band of pubescence on abdominal ventrites yellow from base to apex.

Dimensions (mm). Holotype female/ paratype females. Total length, 11.45/10.30–12.10; prothoracic length, 1.85/1.65–1.95; basal prothoracic width, 2.00/1.90–2.20; distal prothoracic width, 1.85/1.75–2.00; largest prothoracic width, 2.05/1.90–2.25; humeral width, 2.90/2.60–3.10; elytral length, 8.30/7.45–8.85.

Type material. Holotype female from PANAMA, Coclé: El Valle (2400’), 16-22.V.1981, J. E. Wappes col. ( FSCA) . Paratypes—PANAMA, Panama: Bayano (2.5 km W Ipeti), 2 females, 11-22.V.1996, Wappes, Huether & Morris col. ( ACMT, MZSP) .

Etymology. The new species is named for our friend James E. Wappes, collector of the holotype and one of the collectors of the paratypes.
